What is worth choosing
Choosing a family law attorney is a deeply personal decision, and the provided client reviews offer a very mixed perspective that should be carefully considered. While the firm's website and factual information present a practice with a wide range of services and a focus on accessibility, the testimonials raise significant concerns.
One review, which is particularly scathing, comes from a client who felt the attorney was "a great lawyer if you really really want the other side to win." This client was "in awe" of how favorable the deals were for their ex and noted that the case "went dead for a year" while they were still paying alimony. The reviewer explicitly states that they paid the firm to represent them but felt that the attorney was "advocating for my ex." This feedback points to serious issues with client advocacy and case management.
Another repeated review describes a "horrible" experience with both Barbara and Maria. The client reported extreme difficulty with communication, stating that it was "so hard to contact them - email and phone after I paid the retainer's fee" and that they were "non-responsive." The review claims that a significant delay in filing the case caused a "major impact." This client also noted a dispute over the retainer fee, claiming the firm "kept all my money" and never responded after minimal work was done. The reviewer warns others to "Please beware" and "believe the negative reviews in the first place."
These reviews present a direct and severe counterpoint to the positive aspects of the firm's specialization and location. While the firm handles a wide variety of family law cases and has accessibility features, the reviews speak to a fundamental breakdown in client-attorney communication, trust, and effectiveness. A potential client must weigh the convenience and range of services against these serious claims of poor communication, unresponsiveness, and questionable billing practices.
In conclusion, for those in Media, Pennsylvania, seeking a family law attorney, it is essential to consider all available information. The factual details about the firm's services and its accessible location are useful. However, the negative reviews are a critical part of the public record and suggest a need for caution. It is highly recommended that anyone considering hiring this firm conduct a very thorough and personal investigation, perhaps by seeking out references from trusted sources or by being very explicit about communication expectations and billing policies in an initial consultation.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1A great lawyer if you really really want the other side to win. i was really surprised but how good the deals were for my ex. I was also in awe that my case went dead for a year while i was paying alimony pendente lite... or whatever. it was truly amazing how professional and detailed she was when advocating for my ex... to be sure I paid her and she was supposed to represent me, hence the 1 start... but still my wife couldn't have asked for better.
July 18 · seiben713i doubt if the positive reviews are from real clients (not friends/family) but my experience with Barbara and Maria is horrible. It was so hard to contact them - email and phone after I paid the retainer's fee. They were non-responsive. They filed my case much later than they should have which caused a major impact. My phone bills show how many times I tried contacting them. I used another number and all of a sudden Maria picks up. It took them more than 6 months to send me an invoice which showed ridiculous charges. Once they get your money they don't care anymore. I tried working with them and being patient for more than 6 months. There is still a lot left on the retainer fund. Even after stating horrendous charges on the invoice, they wouldn't refund a single cent from the remaining balance that they declared. Please beware. She does a good job of convincing that the negative reviews have no basis, but I should have believed the negative reviews in the first place.
December 20 · Val LI went through a high conflict divorce lasting five years with Barbara. It began in 2019 right before the pandemic. Barbara was consistent and methodical. At times when emotions were high, Barbara focused me. She understands that divorce is not about getting what you think you deserve but landing somewhere in middle. This is not to say she doesn’t fight for what is fair. She definitely does and she knows what to fight for. Barbara knows the Judges she’s standing before and approaches each hearing accordingly. Five years is a long time to work through child support, alimony, equitable distribution and many other issues along the way. I never once thought about changing representation. I would recommend Barbara any day of the week.
August 26 · Kerry ShweikiAt first, retained the Services of Barbara Flum Stein in the last minute to handle my Child Support case. My ex never provided tax information, which made things difficult. I was awarded 200 dollars per kid eventhough my ex was earning around 96,000 and I was earning the half of his income the most. The child support amount remained like that since 2015 until 2024. She never gave me an account of the expenses even though I requested it several times. I will not give you more details but to say I spent much more money I should and this lady did nothing for my case, but asking for more money and money. She is not transparent and all she is interested in dragging yourself for years and years to get more money out of you. I am still not divorce and although I requested her to withdraw from my case in writing with certified letter, her office even refused to sign it and she didn’t answer my emails. She refused to withdrew my case I had to go to the Court to kick her out. She will seem good at first, but then will make you pay and pay more money. She does not work for you, she works for her pocket making things difficult so you keep stagnate on your case.
May 10 · είδος ακριδας προσεύχεταιBarbara and her assistant Maria are both amazing people. I feel they listen to every concern and acknowledge them with accuracy and understanding. I have been represented professionally throughout a horrible divorce. I would recommend this firm to anyone who is in the need of not only a good lawyer but in need of a lawyer and an assistant who will actually do their best to help.
