Wood Law Introduce
Navigating family law matters can be a challenging and emotionally taxing experience for anyone in Illinois. When facing a legal dispute that affects your family, such as a child custody case or a divorce, having an attorney who is both knowledgeable about the law and compassionate to your situation is crucial. Wood Law is a legal practice in Plainfield, Illinois, specializing in family law. The firm's work includes family law disputes and special education matters, which are often deeply personal and require a careful, sensitive approach. Located conveniently for residents of Plainfield and the surrounding communities, Wood Law offers a local option for individuals seeking legal guidance on these delicate issues.
The role of a family law attorney is to serve as a strong advocate for their clients and, in cases involving children, to represent the child's best interests. This is particularly true for a Guardian Ad Litem (G.A.L.), who is appointed by the court to investigate and report on what would be in the best interest of a child. The provided client reviews for Wood Law express significant dissatisfaction with the services received, particularly regarding the role of a G.A.L. The reviews allege that the attorney, Jennifer Wood, overcharged for services and failed to act in the children's best interests. One review claims that two of her clients' children committed suicide and two others ended up in Linden Oaks, a mental health facility, and the reviewer overheard the attorney discussing the cases with another lawyer. The other review alleges that Ms. Wood made recommendations without conducting a proper investigation and was more interested in taking away the client's rights than looking at the other parent.
The services offered by a family law attorney can be vital for people facing difficult situations. Family law disputes can involve complex legal and emotional issues, and special education cases require a thorough understanding of the specific laws and regulations that ensure children with disabilities receive an appropriate education. A professional attorney in this field should provide a clear and engaging experience, which includes open communication, honest assessments, and dedicated representation.

What is Worth Choosing
Choosing a family law attorney is a very personal and critical decision, and for people in Illinois, it is essential to make a fully informed choice. While the firm's physical location and its specialized practice areas in family law and special education may seem like positive attributes, the provided customer reviews raise serious concerns. The reviews are highly critical, alleging professional misconduct, overcharging, and a lack of dedication to the best interests of the children involved. These claims are very serious, as they touch upon the core responsibilities of a family law attorney, particularly one acting as a G.A.L. The accusations of a lack of proper investigation and the tragic outcomes mentioned in the reviews are deeply troubling.
It is crucial for any potential client to perform extensive due diligence before retaining legal services. This includes not only reading all available reviews but also checking with the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC) to confirm an attorney's license status and professional history. The provided reviews suggest that this firm may not be the best option, and the recommendation is to use it as a "last resort" or not at all.
A truly professional and trustworthy legal practice builds a reputation on positive client outcomes, clear communication, and ethical conduct. While this article must be based on the provided data, and it is a factual representation of the available information, the presence of such negative and serious allegations in the reviews is a significant factor that any potential client should consider. The decision of who to hire for a family law dispute is one that can have a lasting impact on your life and the lives of your children. Therefore, it is imperative to choose an attorney with a proven track record of positive results and a strong ethical reputation within the legal community. For residents of Illinois, a thorough and cautious approach is highly recommended when considering this firm.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely terrible attorney, she was appointed the G.A.L. and did not do her job. She overcharged me and did not do what she was appointed for. And just a heads up for any of you single moms or dads looking for a g.a.l. or attorney to have your child's best interest at heart she most definitely does not just this month alone with four of her clients two of them had committed suicide the children of course and the other two children ended up in Linden Oaks so tell me if her recommendations are so great why are children committing suicide and ending up in the Linden Oaks. overall I was disappointed and angry that I had to spend so much money and she didn't even do her job without getting into the specifics of why I had to retain her services I can tell you that this lady should be your last resort I wouldn't use her at all I'm trying to spare you the heartache and save you a lot of money because that's all she's going to do is overcharge you and your children's best interests will not be at heart with her. When I overheard Jennifer wood telling another fellow attorney about the 2 children who committed suicide and the other 2 in Linden oaks I was saddened that her recommendation had been so negative and literally destroyed lives. How many lives has she destroyed?
June 06 · Christopher TheCarpenterSTAY AWAY! I won custody in 2017. My ex makes up things all the time and there is a long history in court documents of it. 2020 my ex files a motion saying my kid is autistic (he's not) and I'm ignoring it. The judge appoints her. She doesn't do any kind of investigation. Makes recommendations based on nothing and was more interested in taking away my rights than looking at the mom.
February 27 · Phillip HacekThe so called GAL was terrible. I would not recommend her to anyone by any means. She did not do any sort of investigation within my case. No home visit, no calls were made to outside people that see the upbringing. Only spoke to the both of us for one hour each and my daughter for 1.5 hours and tried telling the court lies about me. Told me to stay out of my daughters life because I was the culprit of her issues. Stated she had a co dependancy on me even though I see her for 4 days a month. If I could rate her as a 0 I would. My ex even told her that I do not deserve any time with my daughter in which she told me this. She stated that anything that is discussed is not confidential but yet refused to give me any reports of her findings or communication that corresponds with her report for the judge. She spent 2.5 hours on the stand trying to pin me as the bad guy but when the judge went with his recommendation he clearly stated that she did not have a significant say in his final decision on my case, that was after she personally messaged the opposing counsels attorney to inform them that she was running late due to the ongoing flooding in the area. I only pray that she sees the harm that she could potentially be causing because of her inability to fully look into any matters within the family dynamic instead of being worried about charging and wasting everyones money.
June 30 · Heather MendesCompletely biased. Refuses to actually investigate anything that PROVES how abusive father is. Doesn’t care about domestic violence, absentee parenting or open DCFS cases. She needs to be investigated. Mrs. Wheeler-woods is not fit to be a GAL.
December 18 · Ali MulvoyPoor commination, I'm back in court with a different lawyer to go after back child support and I am basically getting divorced all over again because the wording in our divorce documents weren't correct and she lied straight to my face and said its over and nothing can be changed its all set in stone (Judge said the same thing)...clearly not. She proclaims to be a child advocate but now my children will be without a roof over their head. Because of her wording my ex doesn't have to pay a dime going forward only what he owes in back pay. We were married for 21yrs he should have to help pay for that long but she chose 10yrs and now its down to 3!!! Horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!
