PETER ALAN JOSEPH, ESQ. Introduce
Navigating the complexities of United States immigration law can be a challenging and often life-altering process. For individuals, families, and employers in New York City seeking legal assistance, finding an attorney who can provide clear guidance and dedicated representation is essential. PETER ALAN JOSEPH, ESQ. is an attorney located in the heart of New York, NY, with a practice focused on various aspects of immigration law. This article provides a detailed overview of his practice, including the services offered, location details, and key information derived from publicly available data and customer feedback, to help potential clients make an informed decision about their legal representation.
The field of immigration law is broad and requires a specialized understanding of a constantly evolving legal landscape, from application processes to appeals and litigation. PETER ALAN JOSEPH, ESQ. focuses on several critical areas within this field, aiming to serve the diverse needs of New York's population. This report will outline the specific types of legal services available, address logistical considerations like location and accessibility, and present a comprehensive picture of the practice as described by those who have interacted with it. Given the significant impact that legal representation can have on immigration cases, it is important to review all available information carefully before engaging with any professional. This content is designed to be a factual resource, providing a balanced look at the practice based solely on the provided information.
The office of PETER ALAN JOSEPH, ESQ. is situated in the West Village neighborhood of New York, New York, at 177 Waverly Pl #5F, New York, NY 10014. The address places it within a vibrant, historic part of the city, accessible via New York's extensive public transit system. However, based on public feedback, it is important for prospective visitors to be aware of the specific details regarding the physical location of the office. Reviews from a past client describe the office as being in a "rather old and unkempt apartment" and located "up 5 flights of very steep stairs." This physical access detail is a significant consideration for individuals who may have mobility challenges. While the provided information also notes that the location has a "Wheelchair accessible entrance," this appears to be in direct contradiction with the client's description of the five flights of stairs. It is advisable for anyone with accessibility needs to contact the office directly to confirm the precise nature of the entrance and to ensure that an in-person visit is feasible. The building does include a restroom as an amenity for visitors.
The accessibility of the office, in terms of its physical structure, is a crucial point for anyone planning a visit. The presence of steep stairs may pose a barrier to certain individuals, and this detail should be weighed against the noted wheelchair-accessible entrance. Given the conflicting information, a phone call to verify the most convenient way to access the office is a recommended first step for all prospective clients, particularly those with physical limitations. This proactive measure can help prevent any confusion or frustration upon arrival. The location on Waverly Place is generally convenient for those residing in Manhattan or who can access the subway system, but the internal physical layout and accessibility features are key considerations for anyone with mobility issues.
PETER ALAN JOSEPH, ESQ. offers a variety of legal services focused on different facets of immigration law. These services are designed to assist individuals and families with their legal needs, from initial application to more complex legal proceedings. The specific services provided are as follows:
Family Immigration: Assisting clients with visa petitions and other legal processes for family members seeking to immigrate to the United States.
Employment Immigration: Providing guidance and representation for individuals and companies navigating employment-based visas and related legal requirements.

Free Consultation: As advertised, the practice offers a free consultation to prospective clients. However, it is important to note a past client's experience in which a cash fee of $100 was reportedly charged for a consultation that the client stated was advertised as free. This is a point of conflict in the provided information that potential clients should clarify before their appointment.
The features of a legal practice go beyond the services offered and can significantly influence a client's experience. Based on the provided data, here are some key features and highlights of the practice of PETER ALAN JOSEPH, ESQ.:
Wheelchair Accessible Entrance: The practice is listed as having a wheelchair-accessible entrance, although this may be in conflict with other public descriptions of the office location.
Restroom: A restroom is available for client use.
Appointment Scheduling: Public reviews indicate that appointment times may be subject to change via text message, with at least one client reporting a lack of confirmation of receipt. One client also reported a situation where they arrived for a scheduled appointment to find the attorney was not ready to meet with them, and the appointment had to be rescheduled.
Client Communication: Public feedback also notes challenges with communication, including alleged illegible handwriting on documents and a past experience where documents were to be picked up from a third-party location rather than the office itself.
For potential clients interested in contacting the office, here is the provided contact information. It is highly recommended that you call to schedule an appointment and confirm any details about services, fees, and office accessibility prior to your visit.

Choosing the right immigration attorney in New York is a decision that requires careful consideration of all available facts. When evaluating what is worth choosing about PETER ALAN JOSEPH, ESQ., it is essential to weigh the offered services against the public information about the practice and client experiences. The practice provides a full range of immigration services, from family and employment immigration to defense against removal and appeals, which could make it a potential option for individuals with a variety of legal needs. The availability of a "Free Consultation" is also a notable feature, though as noted, this detail has been disputed in public reviews and should be verified.
However, the public data also includes significant concerns that are important for any potential client to be aware of. Client reviews describe the physical office location as being in an "old and unkempt apartment" and accessible only by a difficult climb of "5 flights of very steep stairs." This directly contradicts the listed feature of a wheelchair-accessible entrance and is a serious consideration for those with mobility issues. Furthermore, a detailed client review alleges issues with billing practices, including a fee being charged for an advertised "free" consultation. This review also claims that the lawyer was found sleeping during a scheduled appointment and that a retainer was partially retained after the client decided to end the professional relationship. These are serious allegations of unprofessional conduct, negligence, and fraudulent representation, which the reviewer claims led to a dangerous situation for their asylum case. The review explicitly recommends that others "stay away" from the attorney.
Given these conflicting points, a potential client's decision should be based on a thorough and cautious approach. While the practice offers important legal services, the public feedback raises questions about professionalism, communication, and billing transparency. It would be prudent for anyone considering PETER ALAN JOSEPH, ESQ. as their legal representative to seek out additional information, ask detailed questions during the initial contact, and exercise due diligence before engaging his services. Ultimately, the best choice in an attorney is one with whom you feel a complete sense of trust and confidence, and it is imperative to align the services offered with a practice that has a track record of consistent and professional client relationships.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I went to Peter Joseph office early January to file for asylum fora young man who was seeking asylum. Mr Josephs office is in his rather old and unkempt apartment which is up 5 flights of very steep stairs. I gave him$100 in cash for the consultation which was advertised as free which he later claimed took 31/2hours and forwhich he charged $175 an hour. We also gave him a retainer of $2500 to which he added the $100 for the "Free Consultation" We only saw him about 3 times, once when he filled out the supposed Asylum application which he later claimed was written in his own illegible hand writing. He kept changing the times of our apointments in texts without any confirmation that we actually recieved them. The last apointment we made around January 6 which was just before the year to file for asylum was up, we went to his office at 4pm.He buzzed us in and when we opened the door he was in bed sleeping. He claimed we didnt have an apointment. And we had to leave because he was tired and we should come back the next day at 11 am. The next day he messaged that 2 pm would be better for him. I told him that we could not continue using his service and that he could keep $600 for his time and return $2000, which he refused. After haggling he returned $1000 and said he would give us any documents of ours he had at 2pm but then texted again that we could pick them up at a cleaners across for his apartment on Waverley Place. The document he returned was only a handwritten letter I had written detailing why the young man was late in filing for asylum which was on Mr Joseph's recommendation and was not even correct. In summation, Mr Joseph who is currently undergoing chemotherapy, fraudulently represented himself as an experienced immigration lawyer, padded the hours he spent doing "research" etc. and created a situation where not only are we over the time limit for filing for asylum, and he has put the young man in question in danger of being rejected for his asylum application, but we have now to pay another lawyer to undo his negligence.I have written proof ofall of this and am now seeking the return of $1600 of his retainer. My recommendation is to stay away from Peter A Joseph Esquire. As per my recent experience, he is a total fraud and a very poor lawyer with serious memory issues.
