Navigating overwhelming debt can be an incredibly stressful and emotionally taxing experience. The constant pressure from creditors, the fear of losing a home or vehicle, and the struggle to make ends meet can feel like a heavy burden. For many individuals and families in Massachusetts, bankruptcy can provide a much-needed path to a fresh financial start. It is a legal process designed to help people either eliminate their debts or reorganize them under the protection of the court. To successfully navigate this complex process, it is essential to have an experienced and knowledgeable legal advocate. This article provides a comprehensive overview of Smeloff & Associates Law Offices, a Milton, MA-based firm that specializes in bankruptcy law, offering a clear look at their services and what makes them a significant player in the Massachusetts legal landscape.
Smeloff & Associates Law Offices is a law firm with a specific and deep focus on consumer bankruptcy. The firm's practice is dedicated to helping individuals and families who are struggling with debt find a legal solution. They handle a high volume of cases, and one of their lawyers, Richard Smeloff, is often the main point of contact. The firm’s client reviews offer a mixed but informative view of their service. One client, expressing deep gratitude, noted, "I was so depressed and overwhelmed by my debt… Richard is amazing. He made the process easy to understand and followed up with me quickly whenever I had questions. He helped give me my life back and a fresh start. I will always be grateful for his help." This review highlights the firm's ability to provide a clear, supportive, and effective legal process. However, another review paints a very different picture, citing a lack of empathy and a "salesman-like pitch." This review is a powerful reminder that client experience can vary widely and that a potential client should always conduct their own due diligence.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I was so depressed and overwhelmed by my debt. Every paycheck went right to credit card companies. When paying my rent became a struggle, I went to Richard for help filing for Chapter 7. Richard is amazing. He made the process easy to understand and followed up with me quickly whenever I had questions. He helped give me my life back and a fresh start. I will always be grateful for his help.
May 17 · Isis HaratySpoke with Richard. Once I explained there's no equity, and the house is not in my name he started to talk over me, talk fast with a salesman like pitch and tone, and upon me telling him my mom passed and it's her house, he didn't even have the decency to say condolences. Simply stated "there's nothing we can do, YOUR MOTHER'S DEAD" at that point I politely ended the call. Use discernment when choosing firms to help you in anything. Their tone of voice, time they take to learn about your situation, and basic empathy for losses you've accumulated, family or property, should always be the first thing you pick up on and feel comfortable with. Also do your own due diligence so you know it aren't being sold a lie. Foreclosures can't be stopped at the drop off a hat, your house can't be sold for exorbitant amounts of cash if certain things are past a certain stage. Richard started off the conversation with I can stop the foreclosure immediately, sell your house for this and that, which I knew was BS because I researched the subject and knew that wasn't possible with no equity in the home. He was just running off at the mouth, but my gut told me he was not to be trusted before the insult of my mother. Hope this helps you avoid this sociopathic NARC.
June 03 · Nini PaniniHad Mike work on my bankruptcy case he did an amazing job . Richard Smeloff was also very polite. Will come back if i have any time of issue again . Thank you keep up the great work.
June 18 · Kriolalicious NailsAttorney Richard Smeloff literally saved my life with the creditors who were coming after me. I was getting collection calls night and day and being sued in court. Total stress!! He ran my credit, found all my bills and credit cards and filled a chapter 7 for me. I did not have to pay anything back. I had over $35,000 in debt .It was such a relief! He handled my case in a very professional and caring way. He was very attentive and always returned my calls. I have referred this office to several of my friends. And they all had great results, Smeloff and associates is well run and hard working. would definitely go to them again!!
February 24 · Smeloff RecordsI would avoid this law firm at all possible. I paid $3500 to file a chapter 13 bankruptcy ( I was ineligible for chapter 7 due to my gross income). Richard and Leah knew damn well exactly how that works and didn’t explain it to me at the beginning. With a chapter 13, they take the total amount of your debt (no reduced rate) and spread it out over a 5 year period. They do not take into consideration what your net income is or your monthly expenses. I was left with an expected monthly payment that I was never going to be able to make. As a result my bankruptcy was discharged and I am right back to where I started. I would have been better off calling all my creditors and making arrangements with them. It was a horrible experience. Run for your life. Despicable people.
