What is worth choosing?
When facing a legal challenge, selecting a law firm that aligns with your needs and expectations is paramount. The provided information about Ruegg and Ruegg offers a mixed picture, which is important to consider fully. On one hand, the firm’s most significant asset is its highly specialized expertise. By focusing solely on QDROs, they have developed a deep and nuanced understanding of this specific legal process. This specialization can be a huge advantage for clients who need this particular service, as the firm’s attorneys are likely to be intimately familiar with the requirements of various retirement plans and courts. The flat-fee pricing model for QDROs also offers valuable cost predictability, which can be a relief for clients navigating the financial stresses of a divorce.
On the other hand, the provided customer reviews raise serious concerns about the firm's client service and communication. The reviews describe the lawyer as "rude" and "dismissive," and mention a lack of progress and an instance where a phone call was abruptly ended. This feedback suggests a potential disconnect between the firm's technical legal expertise and its approach to client relations. For many people, clear communication, patience, and a sense of being well-represented are just as important as the final legal outcome, especially in sensitive and stressful family law matters. The fact that the reviews are repeated suggests that this may not be an isolated incident.
Therefore, a potential client considering Ruegg and Ruegg should weigh these factors carefully. The firm may be a good choice if you require a simple, low-cost QDRO prepared by a specialist and are comfortable with a service model that may prioritize efficiency over extensive communication. However, if you are a client who values a compassionate, communicative, and hand-holding legal experience during a difficult time, the reviews suggest that this firm might not be the best fit. The decision to choose this firm should be based on a clear understanding of your personal priorities, whether they lean more towards specialized, transactional legal work or a more supportive, long-term relationship with an attorney.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Rudest lawyer I've ever encountered. Do not waste your time! After 6 months of nothing in QDRO and randomly blaming me for putting it on hold because I apparently made a call to their office to put it on hold. When I asked for court order for the hold, he "resumes it". When I asked him what has been done so far, he said "your problem will be handled and we're done talking" and hangs up on me. Very dismissive. I'm not sure how they allow him to practice still. From the reviews, it's apparently not just my experience with him.

Constantly asked you to sign the wrong paperwork… David does not care about his reputation… he does not care. about his clients and that his paralegal doesn’t not file correct paperwork… it took me 10 months to finally get my QDRO which was very easy as the union lawyers gave him a sample letter but refused to use it … then tells you I have 10 months to get you your QDRO … which at most should have taken a month …. Their lack of professionalism … I would not hire this firm ever again!!!! DONT HIRE THEM !!!!!!

December 23 · Vicky ThompsonAfter a full year of not preparing and submitting the paperwork the for my QDRO and blaming Riverside county court “they are closed due to the Coronavirus “ , (they closed 2 weeks after all paperwork was submitted to the office) the family court was only closed for about 6 weeks in total. After many excuses paper work was submitted only to be denied by the court. Neither David Ruegg or Natasia Ruegg knew how to fix it. Both blamed the judges saying they don’t understand QDRO’s. The court clerks were the ones that corrected the attorneys mistakes. This was after over a year. Do NOT use these attorneys to do your QDRO submissions. They might know how to do the divorce side of it but they definitely don’t know how to do the final steps of collecting. I did file with the State Bar. Eventually I did get all but $40.00 of the fee I paid, I don’t have a clue what that was for.

June 14 · Linda JeffersonA very disappointing experience and I would not use him if your wanting anything done as his timing will not be your timing. You will end up taking matters in your own hands and doing the leg work yourself. Do not recommend and a very bad experience and time and money lost!
