★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1GO ELSEWHERE!!!We came to them during an incredibly vulnerable time, with urgent legal needs involving both guardianship and divorce. They sold us on being a full-service firm that could handle everything under one roof. In reality, they delivered missed deadlines, poor communication, inflated billing, and a total lack of follow-through. The difference between what was promised and what was delivered was staggering.Throughout the entire engagement, our emails went unanswered, deadlines passed without action, and we were charged premium rates for what amounted to disorganization, excuses, and empty responses. Instead of thoughtful strategy or leadership, we got vague reassurances and a mountain of invoices.Even after trying to escalate our concerns directly to Steven Messick, we were met with defensiveness, not accountability. No acknowledgment of error. No willingness to make things right. Just more stonewalling and more charges. We ultimately had to terminate the relationship and hire a new firm—who made more progress in two weeks than Messick did in three months. If you're navigating something serious—especially involving a vulnerable adult—do not take the risk. This firm over-promises and under-delivers, and when you speak up, they treat you like you’re the problem. There are plenty of firms out there that actually care about their clients. Messick Law is not one of them.
June 01 · Daniel WienerBeware of Messick Law! We hired Messick Law to handle a divorce for my uncle, a vulnerable adult with cancer and cognitive decline, who was being financially exploited by his spouse. What followed was months of incompetence, negligence, and billing abuse.Despite paying over $6,400, the attorney assigned to the case missed court deadlines, made basic factual errors in filings, refused to communicate with us, and delivered no strategic plan or progress whatsoever. Emails went unanswered for weeks. Evidence of forgery and financial abuse was ignored. They repeatedly dismissed our urgent concerns with vague excuses like “divorces take time”—while billing $350/hour to tell us nothing was being done. They also billed us for a “no-cost” call, charged attorney rates for clerical tasks, and padded invoices with unnecessary, unproductive communication. When we escalated to the firm’s owner, Steven Messick, he refused to take any responsibility and declined to even consider a refund. After three wasted months, we had no choice but to fire them and hire new counsel—who accomplished more in two weeks than Messick did in three months.Do not trust this firm if you’re in a serious legal situation. They misrepresented their capabilities, failed to protect a vulnerable client, and prioritized billing over advocacy. Messick Law caused enormous emotional stress, financial waste, and unnecessary delays during one of the hardest moments of our lives.
June 01 · Daniel WienerJessica=unethical lawyer.Jessica decides to share unnecessary information out of a psych evaluation with her client.Very unprofessional and unethical.I would avoid Jessica halfmeyer of messick law.
August 30 · J TMs. Jacquelyn S. Lutz is a horrible attorney and did NOT advocate for me whatsoever. She only got me one (1) overnight with my daughter (which is only half of what Minnesota Statute 518.175 allows for parenting time unless the parent is unfit). It took me consulting another attorney to find this out. Lutz does not seem to know the law very well. Not only that, but she allowed me to get burdened with a breathalyzer – which there was no evidence that it was needed for me or my situation. This was a costly mistake – both financially and to the strength of my case. There are plenty of other lawyers out there that will be worth the money – and I strongly suggest you continue looking elsewhere. Additionally, she would rather keep a cordial relationship with the opposing attorney instead of working hard for her client. She often seemed annoyed by me – which is a horrible feeling when burdened with custody matters. I would emphasize this comment if you are a Father fighting for Parenting Time with or custody of your children. Furthermore, she seems to be blinded by her own personal views, rather than looking for blind justice – which is what any attorney should do.I would give zero (0) stars if it was an option.
June 24 · Paul L*Revised October 2019*I ended up retaining Ms. Lutz again in July 2019.Yet again Ms. Lutz fiercely advocated for the best interest of my family and I. Ms. Lutz gave a very accurate, tenacious, passionate pleading to our Judge that resulted in the legal matter being ruled in my favor. Ms. Lutz presented a complex case and was able to passionately advocate on my families behalf. I was overly pleased with her legal knowledge and ability to put such a complex case together so precise. I will continue to retain Ms. Lutz on all of my legal matters in the future as well as reccomend her to others in need of superb legal representation.I first came to Ms. Jacquelyn Lutz in October of 2016. It was definitely the worst time in my life and she compassionately spoke with me about my options. Ms. Lutz thoroughly explained the laws, statutes, process and what to expect going forward. What was supposed to be one case, turned into three intricate cases that took a huge toll on me and my family. Ms. Lutz represented me in court on all three cases with a vast knowledge of the laws and how to proceed accordingly. During all three cases she kept me informed, calm, gave me resources to utilize, and (most important) gave me a realistic view of what may come next. Ms. Lutz knew each case required a great deal of knowledge and creative thinking on how to legally proceed forward with each case. My family and friends are forever grateful for the amazing representation by Ms. Lutz. I highly recommend Ms. Lutz for anyone needing or considering superb representation for any kind of family law.-Miss Megan Y. Hedberg
