MARTZ LAW Introduce
For parents of children with special needs in Utah, navigating the education system can be one of the most challenging and frustrating experiences. While federal and state laws are in place to ensure every child receives a free and appropriate public education, securing the necessary services, accommodations, and respect can feel like an uphill battle. When schools are uncooperative or unresponsive, the burden on families can be immense. In these situations, having a knowledgeable and compassionate legal advocate can be a game-changer.
MARTZ LAW, led by attorney Amy L. Martz, is a law firm in South Jordan, Utah, that specializes in education law, with a particular focus on special education. Unlike many law firms that represent school districts, MARTZ LAW is dedicated to representing the families and children who need a voice. This article will provide an in-depth look at the firm, its services, and what makes it a unique and powerful resource for Utah families.
MARTZ LAW: A Unique Blend of Legal and Educational Expertise
MARTZ LAW is not a typical law firm. The practice is built on a foundation of both legal and educational expertise, a combination that is rare and incredibly valuable in the field of special education. Amy L. Martz is not only an attorney but also a highly qualified educator with personal experience with children who have special needs. She has served as a school administrator and is a National Board Certified Teacher. This background gives her a deep, first-hand understanding of how schools operate, how to navigate education policy, and how to communicate effectively with school management and staff.
This unique skill set allows Amy and her team to provide "advocacy with teeth." They can audit a child's Individualized Education Program (IEP), review assessments and goals, and ensure that federal laws like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) are being followed. For families who have felt dismissed or ignored by their school district, MARTZ LAW can turn things around, transforming a frustrating situation into one where the family is heard and their child's needs are met. The firm's commitment to self-advocacy assistance means they also empower parents with the knowledge they need.

What Is Worth Choosing?
For parents in Utah facing disputes with their school district, choosing the right legal partner is paramount. MARTZ LAW is a firm worth choosing for several compelling reasons, starting with its founder's extraordinary qualifications.
Amy L. Martz is, as one reviewer put it, "the unicorn we were looking for." Her background as a highly qualified educator with personal experience in special needs and trauma, combined with her legal expertise, makes her uniquely equipped to handle complex cases that involve both educational policy and the law. She understands the language and culture of schools, which can be a significant advantage in IEP meetings and other negotiations.
Furthermore, the firm’s commitment to self-advocacy assistance is a notable benefit. They don’t just handle cases; they empower parents. This approach can be incredibly valuable, as it helps families feel more in control of their situation and better prepared for future interactions with the school. The firm's inclusive environment also provides a safe and supportive space for all families, which is a crucial consideration when dealing with such sensitive personal issues.
While a different review notes that the "process surprised me," this is often the case with complex legal and administrative procedures. It's a reminder for all clients to ask for a detailed description of what to expect, but it does not diminish the overall positive outcome that the review also highlights. For families who feel lost and unheard, handing over the "burden of grief and frustration" to a professional who can "pick it up and run with it" is a service of immeasurable value. MARTZ LAW offers a rare and powerful combination of expertise and empathy, making it a highly recommended choice for special education legal needs in Utah.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Amy is truly amazing. She was a game changer for our family and for our son. She made it possible for him to access education. She turned things around with the school. We went from being dismissed, to being listened to. Our son went from being treated like a behaviour problem-child who needed more discipline, to being treated like he has a disability (which he does). The relief I felt being able to hand her our burden of grief and frustration was instant. And she picked it up and ran with it. Just having her on side changed everything for us and our son. We will call on her again I’m sure. The process surprised me, so just get a detailed description of what meetings will be like and what IEP hearing will run like. But all in all it was great.Amy isn’t just a lawyer, she is a highly qualified educator with personal experience with children who have special needs and trauma. She also understands schools, school management and education policy. She is the unicorn we were looking for.I cannot recommend her highly enough.
