★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I hired Ms. Hoffman as my lawyer for a divorce.Overall, she is professional and empathetic. I think that now, with additional years in family practice, is likely to do an excellent job. I should say this is over 10 years ago, but I have had to put up with initial mistakes related to this. When I hired Ms. Hoffman, I was not aware of the entire process, (who is) and frankly was beside myself through the divorce. In retrospect, I should have approached it differently.I reached Ms. Hoffman on a recommendation from a woman (A Ms. Vinelli) that posed as some sort of counselor (she has a not difficult to get (you pay) certificate from a place that concerns me personally.) It was a mistake – Ms. Vinelli networks at the Wharton club to build her business and makes recommendations. I still see her on the Wharton site. I do not know if there was any sort of compensation for the recommendations she made. I assume that Ms. Vinelli networked with Ms. Hoffman who is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School.Ms. Hoffman, who was transitioning from corporate practice, as above, is professional, empathetic, and I would add smart. Though, whatever the recommendation, I now suggest that you interview several lawyers and get several references from each.Having learned how divorce works, I admit that I would not make the same mistakes.I believe Ms. Hoffman, who was new to family law at that time, could have protected certain of my assets better, and could have finalized the agreement better with respect to my child. One problem was a better way to anticipate an ex-spouse who would violate most things. (Ms. Hoffman could not know this, but the agreement and her advice could have, I believe, helped to avoid this.)Overall, I would have been better off with someone that had deep experience with the specific jurisdiction, let alone family law. My ex’s lawyer was a regular in that jurisdiction and I personally believe that his experience there gave him an advantage.Ms. Hoffman was, at the time, a partner in a firm where I was invited to an advisory meeting with (I think) the managing partner. I was not told that his cost was going to be added to the bill, nor the length of the meeting – but that he would be helping. (I don’t remember the exact words.) Maybe that was my ignorance, but I did not have many resources at the time. I also didn’t appreciate a smirk to two out of the partner in relation to a health provider that I regretfully went to based on a recommendation (above) from the same woman that recommended me to Ms. Hoffman. It has taken me until now to warn about Ms. Vinelli and to mention the incident with the partner. Ms. Vinelli also knew about some discussion with Ms. Hoffman. I hope this was not a violation of anything.Overall, I think the entire divorce, given my assets and the situation could have been done for less money, with greater preservation of my assets and agreement related to my child. Most divorces follow a limited template, and especially for the parameters of my case did not require extensive legal work.I believe Ms. Hoffman now would now have substantial experience and should be considered among other recommendations. This is an update. The way a few accounts were "comingled", not in ex name, but had while we were married, could have been handled a lot better. For maybe a percent of the money in a very large account, I had to split it. Hoffman spoke about it as if it was that way - no fight - no real look at the rules. I can't tell you how much I lost that way. DO NOT HIRE HER.

August 06 · P MAs someone who had never experienced a divorce, I put my faith into the supposed expertise of a $500 an hour lawyer. My psycho ex-husband had systematically taken meetings with every decent lawyer within Westchester, so I was relieved when she was available -- should have been a red flag. At our initial meeting, Ms. Hoffman SEEMED compassionate, knowledgeable and proactive. Divorce is a stressful, chaotic and difficult process and I looked to her for guidance in every aspect. Little did I know at the time that Ms. Hoffman had essentially "phoned in" my case. She did the bare minimum in advocating for a just solution: I should have picked up on this dynamic as every conversation was an attempt to demolish any expectation I had for equity and fairness. I realized later that she is only interested in cases that require judicial intervention or the myriad of mechanisms that add to one's bill. There were multiple typos on my documents, clear indicators of a cut and paste job by the paralegal actually doing the work.I received incorrect tax advice and ultimately, received a settlement amount that barely eclipsed what she was paid for her "advocacy". She sucks. AVOID.
