For many Oklahomans, navigating the complexities of the legal system can be a significant barrier, especially for those with limited financial resources. Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc. (LASO) is a non-profit law firm that aims to bridge this gap by providing crucial civil legal assistance to low-income and elderly individuals across the state. Located with administrative offices in Oklahoma City, LASO is a critical resource for those who need legal help but cannot afford to hire a private attorney. This article is designed to provide a factual and informative overview of Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc., detailing their mission, services, and accessibility. It's important for local residents to understand the resources available to them and the processes involved in seeking assistance from this organization.
Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc. works to ensure that equal justice is a reality for all Oklahomans, regardless of their financial situation. As a statewide firm, LASO is the largest of its kind in Oklahoma, with multiple offices serving all 77 counties. Their focus is on civil legal problems, addressing issues that affect the basic needs and rights of their clients. While the provided reviews highlight some negative experiences with specific interactions or case acceptance, it is important to understand the organization's broader mission and the factors that influence their ability to serve. The firm's work is often funded by federal grants and other sources, which come with specific eligibility requirements and case type limitations. This means they must carefully manage their resources, and they may not be able to accept every case or provide every type of service requested. This article will further explain these aspects to provide a balanced and comprehensive picture of what to expect when reaching out to LASO for help.
The administrative offices of Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc. are located at 3800 N Classen Blvd Suite 230, Oklahoma City, OK 73118, USA. This location is part of a network of offices across the state, serving as a central point for administrative functions. For clients, accessibility is a priority. The offices are equipped with a wheelchair accessible entrance, a wheelchair accessible parking lot, and a wheelchair accessible restroom. These features demonstrate the organization's commitment to serving a diverse client base, including those with mobility challenges. Due to the high volume of requests, the firm requires appointments and recommends scheduling them in advance. This structured approach helps the firm manage its caseload and ensures that clients who are accepted for assistance receive dedicated and focused attention from the legal team.
As a civil law attorney organization, Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc. provides assistance in a wide range of non-criminal legal matters. Their services are designed to address the most pressing issues for low-income and elderly Oklahomans. The types of cases they handle are extensive, covering everything from family law issues like domestic violence and divorce to housing issues like evictions and landlord-tenant disputes. They also provide legal assistance with consumer problems such as debt collection and foreclosures, and public benefits issues including Social Security and Medicare. LASO also has specialized programs for seniors (OK-SPLASH) and for agricultural workers. It's important to note that they do not handle all types of cases. For instance, they generally do not accept medical malpractice, personal injury, or other fee-generating cases that could be taken on a contingent basis by a private attorney. This allows them to focus their limited resources on the areas where low-income individuals have the most difficulty securing representation. Eligibility for services is based on income, assets, and other factors, with the general guideline being at or below 125% of the federal poverty level, with exceptions for certain situations or for seniors age 60 and over.
Services Offered:
- Civil legal assistance for low-income individuals and seniors.
- Representation and advice on housing issues, including evictions and landlord-tenant problems.
- Support with family law matters such as domestic violence, child support, and guardianship.
- Help with consumer and debt issues, including bankruptcy and foreclosures.
- Assistance with public benefits and health law.
- Legal resources and self-help materials for a variety of civil legal problems.
The core features of Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc. are rooted in their mission to provide accessible legal help to the state's most vulnerable populations. A major highlight is their statewide reach, with offices strategically located to serve all 77 counties. This broad presence makes legal aid more accessible than a single, centralized office. The firm also provides a variety of resources beyond direct representation, including self-help forms and online legal information through their OKLaw.org website. These resources empower individuals to handle certain legal matters on their own, even if the firm cannot provide full representation. Another key feature is the organization's commitment to accessibility, as evidenced by the wheelchair-friendly entrance, parking, and restrooms at their administrative offices. While the intake process is a significant part of their operation, and a source of some frustration for applicants, it is a necessary step to determine eligibility and allocate resources effectively. The firm's programs, such as those for seniors and victims of crime, demonstrate a targeted approach to serving specific communities in need. While the two provided reviews are negative and speak to frustrations with the intake process and inability to accept certain cases, these experiences reflect the firm's strict eligibility and resource-based limitations, which are common for non-profit legal aid organizations. The organization's ability to help many people through a complex system, despite resource constraints, is a testament to its value in the community.
Features / Highlights:
- Statewide network of offices serving all of Oklahoma's counties.
- Specialized legal programs for seniors and other specific groups.
- Provision of self-help forms and online legal resources.

For Oklahomans who believe they may be eligible for services, Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc. can be contacted via their toll-free phone number at (888) 534-5243 or +1 888-534-5243. Their administrative offices are located at 3800 N Classen Blvd Suite 230, Oklahoma City, OK 73118, USA. It is important to note that appointments are required. This process typically begins with a phone call or an online application, where a client's eligibility for services is determined based on income, assets, and the nature of their legal problem. Potential clients should be prepared to provide necessary documentation to support their application. The intake process is designed to ensure that the firm's limited resources are directed to those who qualify and have the most pressing civil legal needs.
What is worth choosing Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc.? The primary reason to consider Legal Aid is their fundamental mission: to provide free civil legal assistance to individuals who otherwise would have no access to the justice system. For those who meet the strict eligibility requirements, LASO can be a lifeline for critical issues like eviction, domestic violence, or denial of public benefits. While the negative reviews highlight valid frustrations with the intake process and the inability to accept every case, it is crucial to recognize that these are systemic challenges faced by non-profit legal aid organizations due to resource limitations. LASO’s value lies in its existence as a resource. For a client who is facing an eviction and has nowhere else to turn, a successful outcome through LASO can mean the difference between having a home and being homeless. The firm’s willingness to handle sensitive and complex civil cases for no cost to the client—such as those involving domestic violence or elder law—is a significant benefit to the community. By providing services like brief advice and self-help materials, they also help people who might not qualify for full representation, empowering them with the knowledge to handle their own legal challenges. Ultimately, for low-income and elderly Oklahomans, Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc. is a vital institution working to ensure that justice is accessible to all.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1They're a scam artist. I talked to Eugene who told me I had to pay $1.90 for 7 days for access to attorneys and then it's going to be $19.99 a month after. But I can cancel at anytime with the link to he would send me by both text and email. Never happened and apparently Eugene doesn't work there and yes they did send me the email and text. I can't cancel this as I have to use the mysterious missing link to do so. So they're going to get 20 bucks and I have a feeling if I cancel my card they'll sue me so I'm stuck.
February 11 · Cathleen WalkerI guess they only take on evictions. "For the TV cameras" and federal grants. I'm assuming that is their bread and butter for overhead costs. They don't want to really champion "the little guy" when it is a state agency and also involves a corupt billion dollar corporation. But they really shouldn't waste people's time and ask for you to e-mail all your documents only to mail you a letter later after weeks without a follow-up...stating sorry our resources are too low right now. And a list of B.S that cannot provide you with the particular help that you need. Don't waste your time...they don't help with unemployment claims like they proclaim. I wouldn't be surprised that they billed on your behalf for "overhead costs" and "potential assistance". And sham intakes to pad those metrics. It is a sham "non-profit" that benefits them and not you.
June 26 · Jacquie OswaltLegal Aid is an absolute JOKE. I came to them trying to get help with a case regarding my minor children. They REFUSED to help me in any way after I explained every hoop I’ve already jumped through, they ignored everything I said and went with what they wanted. The supervisor is just as disrespectful as the agents who answer the phone. If you don’t fit the vendetta for who they want to serve they will not approve your case.
June 11 · Rebekah McBrideNot really sure how many stars I want to give. Was assigned an attorney for a Canadian Co eviction case. Court is tomorrow. Haven't heard from the attorney since last week. He's ignored our calls and texts. Last thing I heard was that he was trying to negotiate with the landlords attorney. We have no idea what to expect at court now. So, at this point, I'm not to pleased with Legal Aid OKC. But I'm still hoping to hear something.
