I retained Attorney Moria Hogan to handle both my divorce and a domestic violence restraining order, ultimately paying over $73k for her services. Although she did secure the DVRO—a result for which I was genuinely grateful—this positive outcome was overshadowed by a pattern of aggressive fee demands, poor communication, and ethical lapses. After the initial retainer, she repeatedly insisted on large supplemental payments, even demanding $30k more for an additional evergreen deposit much higher than my contract stated. It was constant stress at a difficult time.Throughout my engagement, direct access to Attorney Hogan was virtually nonexistent. Nearly all correspondence was routed through her assistant, and I never once spoke with her by phone or received substantive case updates unless it was the morning of court or the night before. Court preparation was chaotic: witnesses received last-minute calls the night before hearings, leaving everyone unsure of what to expect. At one point, I was even asked to misstate facts in court. Critical case milestones—such as finalizing my divorce, establishing child support, and securing spousal support—were never met. My divorce is still not finalized. On Christmas Eve she let me know if I did not pay she would no longer work for me. On Christmas Eve!!!To compound matters, she later billed me an additional $53k for supposedly unpaid services and placed a lien on my case, targeting the equity in my Willow Glen home. It felt as though I existed more as a source of revenue than a client in need of legal advocacy. In my experience, Attorney Hogan’s focus was squarely on generating fees rather than on achieving a fair and timely resolution.I cannot and do not recommend Moria Hogan. If you are considering her services, insist on a detailed, written fee schedule; establish clear communication protocols; request regular written progress reports; and speak with former clients before signing any agreement. Especially if you are a woman in a DV case, be prepared she looks at you like an opportunity for money, instead of a victim. Please understand, I am sharing this review and it is very personal, I am disclosing information to help protect other woman.

I am reiterating here my 5-Star Review of Attorney Hogan that Google has improperly hidden from view.Moira is absolutely phenomenal! I hired her after my first attorney failed me miserably. Moira came highly recommended as a fierce litigator, a strategic advocate, and an experienced counselor who truly cares about her clients. Not only does she work really hard, Moira, and her dedicated assistant, Giovanna, always kept me well-informed about my case which was messy and complicated. Thankfully, Moira and her team got my children and me stabilized and where we needed to be. The cost of her representation was well worth it, and I am forever grateful.

Anyone who is seriously considering hiring a Family Law attorney in the Bay Area really must turn to Moira Hogan to help him/her/them navigate the difficulties associated with highly conflicted matters. Not only is she the "best in her class" at everything she does, Moira is a great person to deal with *and* she ALWAYS has your back!I originally hired Moira several years ago when my long-time, significant other filed an unsubstantiated restraining order against me. I was scared to death because a lot of false claims were being made, I was kicked out of our shared home and control of our two minor children had been taken away from me. She also managed to block our joint bank accounts and was threatening me in every way imaginable possible. Although I was under the gun, I did interview several attorneys before meeting with Moira. After talking to the others, I knew for sure that Moira was the one who had the experience and tenacity to go the distance in my case - not only to turn things around quickly, which she did, but to stick with me during the very long process that I knew was on the horizon.I am SO glad that I hired Moira and *not* any of the other lawyers I interviewed. She works harder and more strategically than anyone I have ever met, and she left no stone unturned for me throughout my entire case. She is sharp on the law, well prepared for every case event, and compassionate about both mine and my children's personal needs. Because she is so good, she is indubitably and extremely busy; but, I always felt that my needs were well met, as she has a highly competent legal assistant and support staff that made sure I was getting exactly what I needed at every phase of the process.I have no problem paying for excellent service, and I can assure you that Moira and her team are worth every dime. She beat the restraining order, got me equal custody of my children, protected my assets, minimized my support obligations, got my ex to finally get a job, and she even managed to assist us with finding a way to co-parent together for the best interests of our children (note: found out today that my ex's attorney finally got fired for creating so much drama and driving up the legal fees without getting any results; thus, the one of many reasons for the timing of this review!). These last several years have cost a lot of money in legal fees, but those costs were driven by the other side. I am thrilled with the results and, in my opinion, you cannot ever put a price on protecting your children and ensuring that your scorned ex does not control you, your money and/or the rest of your life. Moira is a real warrior who goes to battle every day and comes back victorious. GO HIRE MOIRA to win your own wars!

My biggest regret is that I did not read the reviews regarding Ms. Hogan before I hired her. It would have saved me a year of stress and tens of thousands of dollars. I trusted Moira Hogan with my case she failed me miserably, and now I no other option but to file a complaint to the Bar Association.In the beginning, she seemed to be on top of the details and was available to meet in person and on the phone to review the details of my case. However, once we got to court, she was very unprepared and basically the Judge had to coach her on what to do! I paid her for an entire day in court, yet got nothing out of it. The judge stated that she failed to come prepared with some of the most critical information in the case.After the court date, the judge required follow-up from Ms. Hogan. She prepared the documents, but never reviewed them with me to check for accuracy before she filed them with the court. She also never sent me copies of this paperwork, even after I requested it multiple times. Her office staff told me that they mailed it 4 times...and they charged me 4 times. In addition, once I started to question her billing, Ms. Hogan started to refuse to return my phone calls. Her work ethics went by the way side and she started to treat me like I was an enemy. Her billing is always sent 2 months behind schedule, and then she was charging me late fees! I asked multiple times for an explanation of the bills and how much was being applied towards the retainer. The only response I received was that the bill included money to keep the account green. Again, I asked, "how much?" and still never received an answer.After multiple phone calls, and letters to Ms. Hogan - I still NEVER received a return response from her. Instead, her receptionist started to just hang up on my phone calls.During the year that Ms. Hogan handled my case, she had a revolving door of administrative staff. On average she had one new person each month. They basically just took messages and relayed information back to me. Again, after I started to question Ms. Hogan's bill, she refused to ever call me, so I was forced to speak with her admin and be charged for this!Ms. Hogan and this law firm does everything via fax and letters. No email (what century are we in?). I believe this is a strategy to back-date letters to cover tracks for her incompetence when she forgets details of dates, etc.Please stay away from this lawyer. She is unethical and will bleed you dry.
