What is worth choosing
When considering legal representation, a crucial part of the decision-making process is understanding what clients' experiences have been like. While professional accolades and a long-standing career provide a picture of a lawyer's legal standing, client reviews can offer a look into the personal experience of working with them. In the case of Eugene J. Maurer Jr., the provided reviews raise serious concerns about his service. The reviews describe a lack of communication, with the client stating the attorney "never made an attempt to talk to me for a year or even return my phone calls." This is a significant red flag, as communication is a foundational element of a strong attorney-client relationship.
The client also expresses feeling that the attorney was not representing them fairly, to the point of dismissing him as counsel in court. Furthermore, a promise to refund half of the retainer, amounting to $500, was allegedly not fulfilled for over three years. These issues suggest potential problems with client management, communication, and financial transparency. While the firm's website and other professional profiles may highlight its expertise and long history, these firsthand accounts suggest that a potential client should exercise a high degree of caution and conduct thorough research before retaining services.
In a field as critical as criminal defense, where the client’s future is on the line, trust and effective communication are non-negotiable. The provided reviews directly challenge these fundamental aspects of legal service. For anyone in Delaware seeking a criminal defense attorney, these reviews serve as a stark reminder to look beyond professional titles and to carefully consider the client-facing aspects of a legal practice. It is worth choosing a lawyer who not only has the professional background but also the demonstrated commitment to a client-first approach, characterized by clear communication and transparent handling of the case and finances. While the firm has a long history and positive peer ratings, these negative client experiences should be a primary factor in any prospective client’s decision.

Never made an attempt to talk to me for a year or even return my phone calls after initially meeting him at his office.I dismissed him as council in Court, upon recusing himself and telling the judge he was not retesting me fairly I'd be refunded half of my retainer. 500$ .... it's been over 3 years. Still no money.

July 12 · Ol'world DelawareI hired him for my case and he basically dropped me off the case with a letter, never had a court appearance and he sent conflicted letters to me while I was incarcerated, lying to my family. I never even had a preliminary but was indicted w/o evidence and he showed up to court saying he also did not know. And kept asking why did I possess a gun and didn’t even try to hear my story. Just doing what prosecutors do instead of a hired defense attorney,. But he took my family money and sent me a letter saying he couldn’t represent me a couple weeks later. Scammed us and my great grandmother trusted this guy when I already knew about what he been doing to people of my peers. But don’t waste you or your loved ones money with him, a public defender would do way better.

September 07 · David CrosbyHorrible experience. Spoke with some lady name Molly which she was “handling” his cases since he was out for whatever reason, explain to her the reason for the needed services, she said she was going to reach out back to me, that was a lie. They never reach back to me, even though I left multiple messages, multiple calls as I need an attorney from my brother. Come to find out from my brother’s PD, they refused the case. I didn’t even received a call to let me know that they refused to take the case. These so call attorneys are incompetent and rude af.

March 19 · Glenda SantiagoIf I could give less than 1 star I definitely would. After reading these reviews it’s apparent that everybody can’t be just bashing him. He missed a court appearance, he got time barred which is major! He refused to present a defense to allegations when he had the proof, things he agreed to argue he said he forgot. He Communicated to us at the end of the day it’s a lot of thing he could’ve done but this is where we are now. He didn’t object to the prosecution coaching a witness but he objected to polling the jury Which is unbelievable because that’s in your clients best interest, He wasn’t even sure if he represented the witness against his own defendant which is a conflict of interest. He sent blank copies filings and missing pages of documents. He allowed a motion for new trial and a motion for an evidentiary hearing to sit for over a year without petitioning the court for a timely response and didn’t provide copies of the verbiage in the motion. So many other things that showed he served my son up on a silver platter that I don’t even have enough characters to type. But all info is on file at the prothonotary office for the public to verify what’s in this review. Unfortunately all of these bad reviews he’s probably laughing all the way to the bank because google reviews are not a regulating authority. He was very dismissive even seemingly arrogant as if he has no fear of reprimand. I hate doing bad reviews but I also hate seeing people walk into things without honest feedback on other’s experiences.

March 27 · C ReneeDo not hire this man. He was hired to represent my bonus child and did not listen to a thing she said or help her at all. She likely could’ve done better representing herself. He did less than a public defender so I highly recommend not wasting money on him. One star is more than he deserves.
