Cordell & Cordell - Divorce Attorney Office Introduce
Navigating the complexities of a divorce or family law matter is one of the most challenging experiences a person can face. The legal process is often emotionally charged, and the outcome can have a profound impact on your financial stability, your relationship with your children, and your overall future. For men in Maryland, these challenges can feel even more daunting, as they may face traditional biases and stereotypes within the legal system. Having a dedicated and knowledgeable attorney who understands these unique concerns is not just beneficial—it is essential to securing a fair and just outcome.
Cordell & Cordell is a national law firm with a specific and relentless focus on representing men in divorce and family law cases. With over 100 offices across the United States, including a location in Baltimore, the firm has built a reputation for providing focused legal representation and championing the rights of fathers and husbands. The firm’s mission is to “aggressively champion” the interests of their male clients, challenging the notion that the court system is predisposed against them. As one of the largest firms in the country dedicated to this specific practice area, Cordell & Cordell has amassed significant expertise and resources to help men navigate their most challenging legal battles.
The firm's reputation is complex, as evidenced by a mix of client experiences. While some clients, like the one who praised their attorney Jaimie for accomplishing more in six months than another firm did in a year and a half, feel the firm provides exceptional service, others have had highly negative experiences. A client who felt the Baltimore office refused to take on their "highly contentious" case expressed frustration, believing they were left "to dry" during a difficult time. This shows that while the firm aims to be a “Partner for Men,” not every case is a fit, and some clients may feel let down. However, the firm has a system in place to gauge client satisfaction, which they state is at a 95% rate, and they actively encourage feedback to improve their services. They aim to provide their clients with "the best shot" at success by challenging assumptions and making bold arguments.
The Baltimore office of Cordell & Cordell is conveniently located at 300 E Lombard St #1010, Baltimore, MD 21202, USA. This address places the firm in a central and easily accessible part of downtown Baltimore, with proximity to the local courts. The location is well-suited for clients throughout the metropolitan area and beyond, providing a professional and accessible setting for legal consultations.
The firm is committed to ensuring that its legal services are accessible to all clients. Publicly available information confirms that the office has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, and a wheelchair-accessible restroom. These features demonstrate a thoughtful approach to client convenience and comfort. The firm operates on an appointment-required basis, which allows them to dedicate the necessary time and attention to each client, ensuring a thorough and productive consultation. They also offer online appointments and onsite services, providing flexibility for clients with varying needs.

- Child Custody
Child custody refers to the rights and obligations between parents, regarding their children, after a divorce, legal separation, or paternity decree. There are two independent types of custody. Physical custody refers to the amount of time each parent is permitted physically with a child. This may be sole, primary, or joint custody. Legal custody refers to a parent’s decision-making rights regarding a child’s health, education, and welfare. It, too, may be sole, primary, or joint custody.
- Child Custody Laws
- Child Support
Regardless of your fight to gain custody of your children, child support will be an issue in your case. You will either be paying it or receiving it. Courts have little discretion in setting the amount of child support to be paid. This is because, as a condition of receiving federal aid, the states are required to follow certain standards in their child support statutes. Although the exact procedures and details vary from state to state, there is a certain basic pattern no matter where you live.
- Child Support Laws
- Civil Litigation
- Contempt Proceedings
Contempt can only come into play after a court has issued judgments, orders or decrees to govern the behavior of the parents, which it can do at any point during the divorce proceedings. Once a court has issued such decrees, it is important for you to observe them to the best of your ability and, at the same time, to take note of any potential violations on the part of your ex-wife or former partner. Courts have been known to take it personally when a parent disregards their orders.
- Divorce Information – Petitions, Discovery, Settlement and Trial
Cordell & Cordell divorce attorneys work to ensure every client has the divorce information and family law resources they need to understand the divorce process and know what to expect before meeting with a family law attorney. A divorce can be a long process, and preparation is key in minimizing the length of your case.

- Establishing Paternity in a Divorce or Child Support Case
When the parents of a child are not married at the beginning of the pregnancy or at the birth of the child, the father is legally without the rights and responsibilities of a parent. The father, mother, or a third party on behalf of the child, must seek a declaration of paternity to legally establish a parent-child relationship with the father. This process gives the father specific custodial rights while imposing upon him a legal obligation to provide specific financial support for the child.
- Legal Separation
(In states where permitted.) Legal Separation is a court process designed to define the important rights and obligations between spouses when they live apart, but do not want divorce. The decree for legal separation establishes rules between the spouses regarding such issues as child custody, visitation, and spousal maintenance (alimony). It also divides property and usually debt. However, unlike divorce, the marital bonds are not severed and the spouses continue to be husband and wife. If, at any time during the legal separation, or thereafter, either spouse believes that the differences between them are irreconcilable, he or she may file a motion to convert to a dissolution of the marriage.
- Military Family Law
When a couple decides to end their marriage while one spouse is serving in the military, divorce tends to get more complicated. There are specific rules about where to file for divorce, how to calculate child support, how to determine child custody, how to divide retirement benefits, and more that you need to know. At Cordell & Cordell, we understand the unique challenges military families face during divorce. Our attorneys are able to handle these cases to ensure that your rights and the rights of your children are protected.
- Modification of Divorce Decrees
It’s not unusual for ex-spouses to want to change a prior decree respecting issues of custody and support. A party seeking to modify his decree must show a substantial and continuing change of circumstances. Those circumstances may include dramatic changes in income, relocation to another state, or problems relating to the proper care of his minor children. Cordell & Cordell will ensure that, to the extent possible, our clients’ goals are achieved in light of the new circumstances while preserving those rights provided for in prior decrees.
- Parent Education Courses
- Power of Attorney
Sending your child off to college is an exciting experience, but it also brings a lot of stress. As a divorced parent, you have enough to worry about without being concerned about having access to your son or daughter’s educational, medical, financial, and other critical information.
- Premarital Agreement
- Prenuptial Agreements
- Property Division and Asset Division
Every marriage has at least one topic in common – property. Whether they own a million-dollar mansion or a beat-up RV, a couple will always have to divide up the property and debt. Certain assets remain the exclusive property of one of the marriage partners, even after marriage, and some will be divided. This is done with debts as well. Most debt incurred while married will be shared upon dissolution, though a few personal debts may remain exclusively yours.
- Protection Order
Protection orders are unfortunately common in family law cases and are often used for strategic reasons. The misuse of a protection order when going through a divorce is one of the more prevalent and unfortunate trends in family law. A system that was designed to protect against abuse is itself being abused.
- Spousal Support, Alimony, Maintenance
In some instances a wife will ask for alimony, the court-ordered payment of money to your wife after the dissolution of marriage. If you made more money (especially if you were the primary breadwinner), there is a good chance your wife will seek alimony. The bigger the difference in earnings and the longer you were married, the larger the alimony payment will be.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Cordell & Cordell wasn't my first stop. Would have saved time and money if it had been. While my case is still unfolding, Jaimie has accomplished more in six months than I did elsewhere in a year and a half.I hope to never be an expert at divorce. With Jaimie, I don't need to be. She tells me everything I need to know about what to expect, what direction things can take, and keeps me updated on every detail. They use teamwork. That impresses me a lot as that's how things get done with the best possible results at my work.I highly recommend Cordell & Cordell. My experience with Jaimie has surpassed every expectation.
January 02 · Ian PrestonThe Baltimore Office refused to take my Highly Contentious Divorce proceeding because “it was too involved”. When they advertise to be a Partner for Men, because Mr. Cordell has been through a divorce himself, they lie. When I desperately needed a lawyer who WOULD FIGHT for My RIGHTS as a FATHER, they hung me out to dry. Even with their GROSSLY HIGH Requested Costs and Fees, that I was willing to pay, they wanted nothing to do with my Case. I am STILL Fighting my EX in Court, 6 Years later because She Refuses to Obey Court Orders. MOST Family Lawyers Do NOT Want to Actually WORK for their disgustingly HIGH WAGES. They only want to show up, agree with everything your Ex-Wife wants and move onto the Next Father who is doing everything they can to NOT LOSE quite literally Everything that they have worked for in their lives.I have lost my House, My Career, 75% of my PERSONAL Possessions and for now, Most Importantly My Daughter. These are some of the people that are the reason why people Hate Lawyers.WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND. 🤮👎👎👎👎
January 04 · Loren PlumThe bar isn’t set very high here. Initial consultation sounded great with the head woman who “wasn’t scared of any opposing lawyers”. I quickly found out her staff is borderline incompetent and did not stand for their client.Mine is a simple 50-50 custody of 2 kids but somehow I got short changed to pay more in child support and lose a day per week of custody. I was literally arguing with my lawyer to represent me and the best interests of my children as she was coaxing me to “not go to court” and “this is fair”. I had to correct her on several topics/edits and now I have one last document for review but not without the detainer since my case has been closed.
May 27 · Bryan MaxfieldAnnemarie Duerr is a fantastic lawyer, who will always fight for you. My case is an absolute train wreck and her results have exceeded my expectations. If you want a lawyer who treats you as a person, and not the source of a paycheck, Annemarie should be your choice.
December 10 · Jordan WoutilaWhen faced with the daunting task of finding a lawyer to represent me in my time of dire need, I was lucky enough to find Matt Rudo. He always puts my daughter’s wellbeing first and that’s what it’s all about. I was stressed from the surprise of being served asking for child support, then being served because my ex-wife was trying to take full custody, and now another child support case, where my ex-wife frustrates every aspect of the process. During this entire experience, Matt has remained professional and reassuring. He offers guidance which is hopeful and also realistic. He has used his experience to provide guidance which I describe only as completely and thoroughly worth it. When there are administrative tasks, a paralegal to complete the task, as to save me money, since their rates are lower. When I had to deal with the accounting department, they were also easy to deal with. Something to remember is the lawyer can only do what you allow them to, on your behalf. So if I wouldn’t have taken Matt’s guidance, or not allowed him to complete certain actions or file motions, which I had to pay him to do as his job, I would not likely have had such a favorable outcome. I have recommended Matt Rudo to anyone who seems as if they do or ever could have an issue which he could help with. When I pay his bill, I see it as an investment in my daughter’s future and wellbeing, because if I was lax in this case, it would affect her entire life, as anyone’s life who is trying to raise her to be any bit of a decent human, and thank you to Matt, she will have a fighting chance.
