Berkowitz Lewis Reviews
Mr. Berkowitz expected me to memorize a statute so I could testify over it the next day. Luckily opposing attorneys wanted to use affidavits. Then he cashed my check and ghosted me. He didn't respond to my emails or text messages and let my case go into default. I fired Lewis and hired another attorney who got my case out of default. After my case was out of default, Lewis finally responded to me saying that he wouldn't work on my case until I paid him $7,000. I reminded him that he was fired and I have a new attorney.

December 28 · Brenda DuVerney-ChappellLewis is part of Legal Shield network of attorneys. After being batted around by a couple of Attorneys within this network (and other non-network attorneys before Legal Shield) I was kicked over to Lewis with my - apparently - unpalatable problem. It took little time to be put on a back burner by Lewis, for which I waited patiently for many months after an initial 2 - 3 or so conversations. After so much time passed I became too nervous to hold out any longer. I signaled that I was becoming concerned to the potentiality that he didn't seem to care about my case (not so much as a by-your-leave was ever spontaneously offered). But he emailed me back promptly and apologized.Immediately, he set off by saying that he had a new and far more expensive direction concerning what his previous directive was. I wrote back and told him that I would take it under - genuine - consideration. However, I had a specific question as to how the whole case may perhaps have been divided into two cases.Lew dismissed my question entirely and immediately focused himself instead on what he said was my being overconfident in my case based on my most recent reply to him. Specifically, he was focusing on how I had simply said that I didn't see how I could lose based on the evidence in my case (i.e. my evidence was sound). Lew feigned concern and said I needed to write back and CONVINCE him that I needed to understand that I could lose. Really, Lew? Confused at this juncture, I asked him to meet me for the first time. He refused. As he refused this simple request, he double-downed and demanded that I satisfy his concern of my being over-confident or risk losing him as my attorney( but guess what, dear reader, he's actually already decided!).Being backed into a corner, I wrote back and admitted it, and more - I said I understood that anything could happen, sure! Moreover, I would not blame him by default if I lost my case when I did not expect it. What more can I do but affirm what he says? Hopeful that my reply would suffice, I again simply asked if he would then answer my original question about splitting the case.Lew wrote me back and said he was dropping me. We weren't going to make a good team, he said.Dismayed, I wrote him back one final time and stated that I had done precisely has he had directed. This fact was evidenced by our email history, and so what was he really getting at? And what about my question that he would not seem to answer? And would he, in fact, please reconsider? I also reminded him that he'd wasted months upon months of my time, to apparently no effect whatsoever. His final email didn't deny that I admitted that I could lose but simply interjected by saying that we wouldn't make a good team because we "weren't communicating." Well, I have the emails - he is diverting the issue of the fact that he simply doesn't want the case now. That's what this is really about. It's about him.In the midst of my problem I have come to understand that my case an unattractive one based on the fact that everyone is looking away - I admit this. I made an honest mistake in giving someone too much money for construction services and I can't get the money back. But Lew kept me on the line far too long for this to be an example of professionalism on his part. Lew simply doesn't care. It's not his problem. If he keeps you waiting in the wings and finally decides to kick you to the curb because he doesn't prefer your case...It's going to be your problem. So, good luck with that.
